So what is Metalier

It is a decorative metal water-based coating which is for interior and exterior applications.

Metalier is a cold-spray composite decorative water-based liquid metal coating that allows you to make any substrate look as though it is solid metal.  It is a metal finish, like a veneer, which has two main ingredients – the binder and the metals. There are also important extras – patina, polishes and a water-based clear coat that is strong enough for exterior coastal conditions.  Take a look at our video to see the process:

Metalier’s decorative liquid metal coating system contains two major components:

First is the binder.

The binder is the most important component of the Metalier decorative liquid metal coating system.  The special ingredients it contains are the result of years of research and development. And that R & D is ongoing. Without Metalier’s special water-based binder you do not have a Metalier coating and its decorative liquid metal system.

Metalier has moved exclusively to a water-based system and a water-based binder for a number of reasons. The prime driver was to create a product that is environmentally friendly. There were other considerations too. Solvents have a high VOC level, they’re rather smelly and to clean up after them you need to use a lot of other solvents.

But let’s not dwell on the past. We’re just delighted to be able to offer a whole water-based system from Tie Coat (High Build Primer) to Metal Coat and Sealer. And the sealer comes with our highest recommendation – it is suitable for exterior use including in coastal situations and it can be used on interior floors and working benches in kitchens.

Once you have used our water-based liquid metal system you’ll never go back to the old ways.

 

Second is the metals.

The Metalier decorative liquid metal system uses the highest quality sintered metal powders. We have used the same supplier for over 10 years and the quality of the metal powders we offer is consistent and reliable. The powders are coated with a special preservative coating and vacuum packed in 1 kg bags so the metals stay in their natural state for years and oxidization is reduced significantly.

Metalier Signature Collection metals are available in in the following core metals:

The formulae for additional hues are also a part of the Metalier Signature metal collection. These are:

  • classic gold
  • champagne gold
  • gunmetal silver
  • rose gold

And you will be able to create your own colours from our core metals and the use of patinas.

Other metals are available on application and are:

  • dark copper
  • dusky copper
  • chocolate bronze
  • tin
  • manganese
  • black copper
  • zinc

 

 

Extras

The extras are also important to the Metalier metal finishes system.

You wouldn’t be able to create our textures without the thickener and you certainly need thinner and Hot Weather Retardant (for the water-based system) in warmer climates.  We have also created our own range of patinas and have imported into the range a Metal Nano Coat to seal the metal finishes and prevent oxidisation.
